I have been sitting here for two days trying to figure out exactly how to design this lesson plan. When I left New Orleans I had many half ideas but none for my grade level. I may be over thinking the process as I tend to do but I just don't have a clue what to do for my kindergarten students that hasn't already been covered. HELP!

Alicia...I added a conversation last week called Starting Young...It aint easy! I stated that I was going to teach preschool art for the first time and had no idea how to start. I though a good place was to explore all the things their young hands touch, use and have to manipulate over the course of a day and how these item are really not designed for the size of their hands or for their ability levels. Some examples are door knobs, remote controls, gallon milk jugs, shoe laces, coat zippers, bathroom fixtures, factory sealed wrappers on snacks,... the items are endless. Brainstorm with the kids how these things could be better for them and maybe have them draw the item the way they want it to work or look like. This may be a great group project to get them talking, socializing and thinking constructively. Good luck!

Alicia, I came back with many ideas, writing them down on anything I could find on the plane, talk about striking while the irons hot !. But when I actually sat down to get the lesson down it began to grow into a monster !!! But I met with the coordinator of special projects in town and I found a kindred spirit. We sat down and talked about ideas some of my students have had over the years and how they coincided with the exact same projects the town has planned for the next few years. It helped crystalize my lesson and gave it focus and direction. I guess what I'm saying is run your ideas across a few people and see where that gets you. Keep an open mind to everything !

Ask around the school for some ideas. Even if you don't use that idea you can possibly grow and idea off of what is given to you!
