I'm not sure how long this has existed, but I'm pretty sure it won't be long before I find myself wondering how I ever existed without it. It's a free web resource that allows you to convert youtube videos to downloadable files (they call themselves an advanced DVR for your favorite online media). Our school district, like many others out there I'm sure, blocks websites like youtube. Now you can save any movie you find (from a network where the useful videos you want aren't blocked) as a file right on your computer - even to show offline. What an awesome teaching tool. The demonstration I saw was this great movie called animation vs. animator or something like that. Search it on youtube, copy the youtube video url, then paste it into the bar at dirpy.com. Dirpy is the new gazzump!

This sounds like an awesome resource. More and more I am using video clips to enhance my lessons and have come across the frustration of not being able to access youtube in the classroom. Yes there is a lot of inappropriate material on there but there is also some amazing videos that can be beneficial to the classroom environment. Thanks for the information. I will be checking it out.

This is going to be a lifesaver for me if it still works- I am allowed to use youtube-but it always takes forever to load on my school's network. Thanks for sharing Nick & Carlos!
