Like Cecile J. we will be participating in the Playground 5-day rebuild (of the park space lost to Katrina and more recently arson) during April. My Design class and Art Club will be involved. My Design class students had the honor to be on hand when the designer for the playground was just sitting down following his meeting with Polly (the project chair). He had 4 hours to put together his proposal for the community. We didn't take up too much of his time but, he explained how he had met with children of St. Bernard (through the schools) and asked them what features and themes he should include. The first thing his knew, for certain, was the exact placement of the slides, always facing away from the sun as not to bake or blind. He made his deadline and the new design looks promising. Polly had already enlisted me with a similarly short deadline to produce the Tee-shirt design tied into the playground Re-Boot (the St. Bernard Parish cultural icon of the "white shimper's boot was a major tool in raising money and awareness of the original playground build). I also made my deadline for the Tee design. I included the original characters we had created with student assistance, this time I didn't have time to include the art classes on the shirt design, but there's more than enough work to share on a very crowded horizon. Thanks Cecile for spreading the good news.

As a teacher in NOLA and a resident of St. Bernard Parish I to will be envolved in this very worthy project. My family will help on a construction day. We will also repurchase the fence post with our children,s names and the names of the children of a friend in the Canary Islands. This is aan excellent project for the students at CHS. Many will visit the site with friends, family and younger siblings. kathie acosta alternative learning institute

Kevin, I also plan to help with the project. My husband works for the parish and is in a group that will also help! We can't wait to help out! I can't wait to see the t-shirt! I will also get my FBLA students to help out!

Kathleen, I visited St. Bernard Parish over the weekend and to my surprise, St. Bernard is coming back quite nicely. Many establishments are open and many are returning very soon.

Visiting St. Bernard this past weekend for the Crawfish Festival was a very enlightening experience to see how the parish is redeveloping. Had a great time.

Took my 13 year old son to participate in the playground build. He was joined by other boy scouts. It was a great time. He kept saying how much fun he had..He did not consider it work. as parents and teachers we need to get our children and students involved in community service.
