Hi All! Please check out this year's People's Design Award. You can browse all of the nominations, or nominate your own design. It is a great tool to use in the classroom in order to introduce your students to the breadth of design. Plus, there are several lesson plans that feature PDA. Check out the People's Design Award at www.peoplesdesignaward.org and the lesson plans at https://peoplesdesignaward.cooperhewitt.org/2007/about_education.php. The winner of the People’s Design Award will be announced at the National Design Awards Gala on October 18th.

I think this is a great opportunity Cooper-Hewitt has put into place a "Peoles's Design Award". What a wonderful idea! Does this allows the public to choose the best award? Who can enter this contest? It sounds pretty exciting! I will utilize this website to have my students take a look at the many avenues of design. Thanks for the info.

I had my students look at the designs, choose one, and create an ad for it. They designed the type and copy for the ad, but also had to determine the intended audience and the underlying message the product conveyed.

Mary--that sounds like a great activity! What did your students think? I think PDA is a great way to introduce students to design and the fact that design is all around them. Plus, they can nominate anything they want. The winner will be announced next week, so make sure to encourage your students to check it out!
