I love the simplicity of this lesson, I think I am going to try it with my lower level Algebra class. We are starting percents after the holidays. I love using clothes and every day things to teach lessons. If there are more lessons on percents or fractions that any one can share that would be great. Fractions are still hard to get across even in high school, so lessons like these for percents may work for fractions.

I shared the lesson 60-30-10 with one of the math teachers at my school. The lesson allows students to analyze the concept of percentages in everyday objects by creating designs using different percentages of colors. Our math teacher was intrigued with the lesson and may use it when teaching some of the appropriate concepts.

Our math teachers are always looking for ways to use an interdisciplinary approach, and this would fit in with our design small learning community. I will definitely share this lesson. Karen Lennan

Could you be a little more specific about the content of the lesson? Our students always have trouble with percentages and I'd be interested in trying something new!
