Like many educators, I subscribe to several professional journals, and each time one arrives in the mail, I fully intend to read it cover to cover, share articles of interest with colleagues, and implement all the great ideas other professionals have shared in the pages of these journals. The reality is that often months go by before I even crack open the covers, which was the case with the May 2009 "Educational Leadership" journal I received just as school let out last spring. Sometimes, however, things happen for a reason... Last month just after submitted my first design lesson, I came across the journal entitled "Teaching Social Responsibility," and it practically jumped into my hands. This issue contains articles covering a variety of topics that support the design process, either directly or indirectly. I found the article entitled "Stirring Up Social Justice" particularly relevant. The journal is published by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and their website is https://www.ascd.org/ You must be a member to access their publications, but who knows...maybe someone you know has the issue just lying around waiting to be discovered!

This definitely sounds very interesting. Sometimes the most important lessons we can teach our kids are not necessarily about content, but about values.
