I am the art teacher at Brit's school and I also had an art connection to this project last year. The students in Brit's class made a healthy snack cookbook. The 1st/2nd graders made watercolor paintings of their created dishes. These images were scanned and included in their classroom cookbook.

I am working on my "Nutrition" Lesson Plan and it is coming along nicely. Students are collecting their nutrition labels for the actual activity. I will be finished in a few weeks. I am investigating some sites for a culminating activity to use with our wireless lab. I have found one called "The Nutrition Cafe" that is excellent.

This sounds interesting. We teach nutrition in our child development/parenting course. I can't wait to read your lesson plan!

Hi Cecile, A lesson on nutrition should be great for students, since this is all you hear on the news that children should have better things going into their bodies to stay healthy.

Cecile, This sounds great! Educating the students on eating right and having healthy daily habits are a plus. Especially since all we hear about in New Orleans is the obesity rate and how it affects our children. However, I am curious about the Nutrition Cafe? What's the website address?

This is a great idea!!! Have you thought about the students perhaps looking a designing at designing a nutrition cafe for their own families? I think that having the students bring it into their households it could transform from an in the classroom project to an outside perhaps life changing family project.

My 1st/2nd grade class studied fitness and nutrition last semester. We definitely thought about having families be an important part of the process. Our kick-off activity involved a potluck where every family shared a dish that was special to them and that they felt was nutritious. This activity helped us as we continued with the study because all the families knew what we were studying and why.
