Hi All! For those of you that don't live in New York and can't make it to our Educator Open House, Friday, October 19th, check out the LIVE WEBCAST! Go to our website www.cooperhewitt.org on Friday and follow the links. You will be able to see our program "Designing a Better Learning Environment." Hear how designers and architects are helping redesign schools to promote better learning environments and learn how a few simple changes can help you transform your own classroom. Guest Speakers: Xenia Cox, Director, Site Planning and Development, Office of Portfolio Development, NYC Department of Education and Pamela J. Loeffelman, Managing Principal, AIA, LEED AP, Perkins Eastman Architects

I have been really fortunate to get to be on the design team for some school tech classrooms. The last one was a remodel of over 18,000 square feet. My classroom is part of that space. We used a lot of windows and doorways and eliminated hall spaces to get more space in the classrooms. Access is from the building exterior. We have a lot of visitors and the teachers love our spaces. I'm very envious, Don... I really must get out to visit you. Here in Molalla, we have windows that don't open, and strange, shifting smells from the vents. What a pleasure it must be to teach in an environment that gives credence to the principles of design in practice.

Carolyn, My e-mail is [email protected] I would love to have you come visit. My kids are actually building an outdoor exhibit like the one at the Cooper Hewitt centered on the theme of Design for the other 90%. Our first habitat is an 8 x 10 building and they have created two water pumps using off the shelf plumbing parts from Lowes and Home Depot! Don Domes, Hillsboro High School, Oregon
